Pittsburgh Musical Theater (PMT) is a non-profit organization committed to providing quality, affordable musical theater to the Pittsburgh region, educating youth in the arts, and employing and developing local talent.

Pittsburgh Musical Theater produces shows with its professional company at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District. PMT, also provides acting, singing, and dancing classes for students at its art’s education center, the Richard E. Rauh Conservatory.

The students at (Pittsburgh Musical Theater’s Arts Education Center) the Richard E. Rauh Conservatory Company (RERC) perform with their very own theater company. The Rauh Conservatory Theater Company showcases student talent in Broadway shows at the Byham Theater in Pittsburgh’s Cultural District, and the New Hazlett Theater on the North Side near the Children’s Museum. These fully produced musicals allow students to claim principle roles, and are supported by the professional company, artists, and musicians of Pittsburgh Musical Theater.

Pittsburgh Musical Theater holds auditions open to both equity and non-equity performers. Any child cast in a PMT professional company show is cast directly out of the Richard E. Rauh Conservatory, and there are no exceptions. PMT employs equity actors and live professional musicians. Local talent is given precedence, however PMT’s talent spans worldwide.

PMT reaches students by producing student matinees during the school year; this early matinee time allows schools to introduce students to musical theater on a regular basis. Student matinee tickets are priced at $10.00 to guarantee quality musicals for students at affordable prices. PMT was the first local company to offer these matinees to local schools, many of whom are financially-challenged areas. Following each matinee, a talk-back allows for dynamic interaction between the audience and the director and the actors. In addition, study guides written by education professionals are distributed to the teachers in advance of the performance.

Pittsburgh Musical Theater was founded in 1990 with the vision of creating a regional musical theater company committed to quality productions of the best of Pittsburgh’s own professional talent at a price affordable to all residents, especially children and families. As a non-profit performing arts organization, the mission expanded to include a strong commitment to education, training, and outreach programs through it’s arts education center for musical theater.

Through it’s education programs, PMT enriches the lives of young people by introducing them to the musical theater experience.
