Nick M. Daniels/DANA Movement Ensemble present their first concert in 20+ years
Creative, emotional, passionate movements is the best way to describe the choreography works of dancer and artistic director of the D.A.N.A. Movement Ensemble (Dancers Against Normal Actions), Nick M. Daniels. Fresh from performing during the 39th Annual historic Three Rivers Arts Festival in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and festivals in Cambridge, MA.Daniels is set to bring his artistic works to Ryan Arts Center in McKees Rocks October 26 and 27 with his company The DANA movement ensemble by his side. “It is exciting and an honor to have the opportunity to perform in such prestigious and exciting events and noted facility,” states Daniels.
Considered a Pittsburgh pioneer in exploring race and sexual identity, Daniels will perform excerpts from his iconic dance performances“Sissy.”and “Folkdances of a Nucleic Village” Both works are multi-disciplinary and delve nto his personal story, opinions and perceptions of the state of the world. His choreography is based in Buton, African, modern, and contemporary styles and challenges the audience to connect on an emotional level that pulls from their personal experiences and from within their souls. The original music and soundscapes encompasses many styles including opera, modern, spoken word and distorted sound effects. The design/coordinate costumes, props, and set design are all his creativity.
