Ottessa Moshfegh - Celebrated Novelist

Presented by Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures at Carnegie Music Hall (Oakland)

A celebrated new literary voice, Ottessa Moshfegh’s debut novel Eileen was shortlisted for the Booker Prize and her short stories in The Paris Review awarded the Plimpton Prize. She writes her new novel My Year of Rest and Relaxation with dark humor, tenderness, and compassion.

National Endowment for the Arts fellow Moshfegh was garlanded with critical acclaim when Eileen was named a book of the year by The Washington Post and the San Francisco Chronicle, nominated for a National Book Critics Circle Award, short-listed for the Man Booker Prize, and then won the PEN/Hemingway Award for debut fiction. Her short story collection Homesick for Another World was a New York Times Book Review Notable Book of 2017.

My Year of Rest and Relaxation is about a young woman’s efforts to duck the ills of the world by embarking on an extended hibernation with the help of one of the worst psychiatrists in the annals of literature and the battery of medicines she prescribes.
