Music takes center stage as Texture presents “The Speed of Sound,” at the New Hazlett Theater.
This program features world premieres by Artistic Directors Alan Obuzor and Kelsey Bartman, each utilizing dynamic musical selections which are filled with a multitude of layered tempos, tonality, and emotion.
Alan Obuzor's new work is set to music of renowned composer Philip Glass. In this piece, extreme movements and quick footwork keep pace with Glass's music, which is known for its morphing sounds, overlapping melodies, and broad sweeping tones.
The second work on this program features music by Scottish band Frightened Rabbit and pays tribute to lead vocalist and guitarist, the late Scott Hutchison. This new creation by Kelsey Bartman draws on the vulnerability of the band's lyrics and instrumentals to embody experiences surrounding depression.

On-street parking is available at no cost after 6pm, Monday-Saturday and all day Sunday. Paid parking is available in the Allegheny Health Network garage for evening events and weekend matinees.
To find the garage:
Drive past the theater and follow Allegheny Square East as if you were going back out onto East Commons
The Allegheny Health Network garage will be on your left
Pull in and a uniformed parking attendant will collect your fee
Parking in the garage is $7 (cash only)
