Pittsburgh Watercolor Society Annual Aqueous Open 2018 Opens at Spinning Plate Gallery

The Annual PWS Aqueous Open 2018, open to any artist working in water-based media, kicks off with a reception on Saturday, October 7 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, at Spinning Plate Gallery at 5821 Baum Blvd., Pittsburgh, PA 15206. The Juror, Carol Carter selected 12 awards that will be presented at the opening night reception. This reception is free and open to the public.

This year’s Annual Aqueous includes the work of 62 artists from all over the globe, including 38 artist members of PWS and others from the greater Pittsburgh area, 12 states and 4 countries. The exhibit runs from Saturday, October 6 through Saturday, October 27. Gallery Hours are Wednesday 11-4, through Saturday 11-4.

PWS is a regional artist’s organization that hosts an international exhibit annually, and a group that has developed a reputation as a prestigious group of watercolor artists. The PWS Aqueous Open Annual International Exhibition is open to all artists 18 or older working primarily with water- based media on a paper surface and unvarnished (YUPO and Tyvek are permitted.) Mediums include: Watercolor, acrylic, casein, gouache, egg tempura, watercolor with ink, water soluble pencil, crayon or graphite and must be artist's original work only. Work is new and must have been completed within the last two years and not previously shown in a PWS exhibit.

The Juror for Aqueous Open 2018, Carol Carter, is a world-renowned artist and arts educator. She received her MFA from Washington University, St. Louis and received a MAA-NEA Fellowship in Painting and Works on Paper. Her works have won numerous awards and have been feature in several publications. .

Ms. Carter's work is represented in many public and private art collections, including those of Citicorp, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Arjomani Paper, Leonard Slatkin, Price University, and Utah State University to name a few.

She will be presenting a very special demonstration created for this exhibit on Sunday, September 23 at 1:00PM at the PWS membership meeting at the Carnegie Carnegie Studio, (the Andrew Carnegie Free Library & Music Hall) 300 Beechwood Avenue, Carnegie PA 15106.
