Join us in our gallery space for the two month long exhibition “Unfurl” by artist in residence Oreen Cohen.
Oreen's artist statement:
To unfurl is to make or become spread out from a rolled or folded state, especially in order to be open to the wind. With this in mind, I approached the making of new work for the Summer 2018 residency at Creative Reuse.
My creative process is visceral, deeply rooted in the act of scavenging, experimentation and collage. All the materials are reclaimed from Creative Reuse, the trash, or from a U-pick auto junk yard. Each sculpture began with bending tomato cages for the armature. Becoming familiar with each material's properties, how it might bend, warp, or transform initiates the exchange between myself and the materials. Processes such as weaving, layering, collaging, dipping, twisting have been used and reiterated in each sculpture.
The work illustrates the unfurling and unwinding of material potentials that ultimately establish themselves into new narratives.
Each work stands on its own but together creates a large scale installation. Each work and each painting in the background is for individual sale.
