Mrs. Krishnan's Party | Indian Ink Theatre Company

Presented by Cohen and Grigsby Trust Presents at Trust Arts Education Center

North American Premiere - Part of the Pittsburgh International Festival of Firsts

Countries of Origin: India, New Zealand

Indians throw crazy parties. Heard of Diwali? A million lamps floating on a river and fireworks to wake the dead. Heard of Holi? An explosion of color and joy and massive dry cleaning bills. How about Onam? No? It’s the harvest festival, and this one could be the craziest of them all!

Mrs. Krishnan is renting an apartment to the overzealous wannabe DJ, James. James has invited a few friends into the back room of Mrs. Krishnan's dairy to celebrate Onam and the special surprise that her son has returned home for the holiday. But when 100 strangers turn up (you, the audience) and settle in, Mrs. K has no choice but to throw the party of her life! An immersive experience like no other, join the party with music, dancing and vegetarian Dah prepared live each performance. Come as you are or break out that festive sari.

A note from the Festival Programming Team:

We love immersive theater. For the uninitiated Mrs. Krishnan's Party is part of a hit immersive play series based on the lovable and amiable character Mrs. Krishnan created by the founders of the India Ink Theater Company- Jacob Rajan and Justin Lewis. The 'Mrs. Krishnan plays' have been running continually for over 20 years, touring the length and breadth of New Zealand, India, Europe and beyond. We knew Pittsburgh audiences would want to experience this theatrical phenomenon for themselves.

All you need, we're bringing to the table- in the strangers that surround you and the imagination that abounds within and the wonder of what’s going to happen next. That moment of not knowing, of being lost and confused, excited and a little scared is really what this performance is about: change.

The world is in a constant state of change. But rather than bemoan how hard it is to get to grips with all this shifting sand we want to celebrate the new castles we will build from it. That first step into the unknown is terrifying for the characters you’re about to meet but necessary for them to grow. We hope you’ll enjoy reassuring them that they’re not alone.

Party on!
