Andrés Cárdenes and Alia Musica perform music for between 8 and 15 instruments. Lutoslawski, Varese, David Stock, and more
Alia Musica's season closer features David Stock's beloved violin concerto The Philosopher's Stone, performed by the great Andrés Cárdenes (former PSO concert-master), as well as the premiere of Gorilla, by New York-based composer and saxophonist Erin Rogers.
The ensemble also performs Edgard Varèse's Octandre—the 1923 but thoroughly modern-sounding study on sound for wind octet—and Witold Lutoslawski's Chain No. 1—the only chamber-ensemble work by the Polish master. Completing the program is John Arrigo-Nelson's Frammenti di Recitativo, for mixed octet.
