This Monmade Mixer will challenge artists to identify the aesthetic elements that make their artworks unique, and apply those elements to a variety of high quality products with integrity. The event will feature a guided walk through of the Interiors with Impact exhibition in the Hodge Gallery, and a panel discussion with artists navigating this transition. Succeeding in the maker economy or the craft manufacturing sector asks creatives to design products that lend themselves to some range of production. Whether it’s runs of 5 or 5000, it is a mindset and skillset that does not always resonate with self-identifying artists accustomed to creating one-of-a-kind pieces. Can sections of paintings become repeated patterns for wallcoverings? Can sculptural elements become the foundation for hardware or lighting? If done thoughtfully, this process opens artists’ creative output to a wider audience and enhances the sustainability of their careers.
