Megan Adgate is a fiber artist living and working in Wilkinsburg, PA. She grew up in central Pennsylvania before attending the University of Pittsburgh. After graduating she found a passion for food and farming and had her first encounter with weaving while working on a farm in New Mexico in 2014. A seed was planted that would later bloom into a love for tapestry. She is currently working on a series of weavings based on walls around her neighborhood of Wilkinsburg.
Megan's Artist Statement:
My work examines the vulnerability of transitions through sculptural tapestry by intuitively creating organic shapes and structures using materials such as wool, cotton, and linen. Inspired by intersecting outlines of buildings throughout the city and the experimental prose styles of Lydia Davis and Clarice Lispector, I hope to challenge the traditional idea of tapestry.
