Read Like a Writer (and Become Better at Your Craft!)

Read Like a Writer (and Become Better at Your Craft!)

Presented by CRAFT TALKS at Online/Virtual Space

There’s no better way to grow your creative nimbleness than reading “like a writer.” Active reading techniques make narrative movements, expectations, and patterns more available to us in our own work. Through careful attention and emulation, we gain more creative ideas and break through writer’s block.

Reading like a writer is an active exercise; what author George Saunders calls “an intense” and “forced acquaintance” with the stories and poems we read.

Bring a pen and paper!
In this session, you will:

LEARN to actively engage with stories and poems
PRACTICE reading with these techniques
IDENTIFY why you might stay with a story instead of abandoning it, and
CREATE reading goals to improve your work-in-progress.

This webinar is ideal for…

Writers suffering from writer’s block.
Writers looking to increase their understanding of how narrative works.
Poets and writers seeking to build their toolkits.
MFA graduates looking for a refresher course
Readers who want to engage with story on another level.
