Alex Hodowanec’s show, “The Modern Frankenstein” explores the connection between beauty and the uncanny.
Alex Hodowanec is a painter living in the South Hills area of Pittsburgh. His show, “The Modern Frankenstein” explores the connection between beauty and the uncanny. In the original Frankenstein tale, the perfect being is conceptualized by mixing-and-matching "ideal" body parts onto one vessel; but the result is an unsettling monster. What would that creature look like today and what would cause someone to make it? Does the wealth of information and different personalities online help make these creatures? The show features contrasting concepts like faceless portraits, disproportionate models, and muted scenes in neon colors.
