ABOUT SON OF BALDWIN:

Son of Baldwin is a social justice social media community created in 2008 by Robert Jones, Jr. as tribute to legendary author James Baldwin, answering his call to “find [him] in the wreckage” and continue to the work of dismantling the human-made structures that oppress the marginalized.

Son of Baldwin is specifically interested in critical analysis, and in leading and participating in conversations that shed light on matters from a Black queer perspective. Intersections of ability, age, body type, class, gender, gender identity, sex, sexuality, and any other identity category endangered by white supremacist capitalist patriarchy are also considered.

Topics of engagement include art, beauty, education, history, literature, politics, pop culture, religion, science, society, spirituality, and more.

The goal is to have these discussions in a space that is welcoming to accountability, civility, honesty, and self-reflection.

A quote widely attributed to James Baldwin, but was, in fact, coined by Robert Jones, Jr. on August 18, 2015 on Twitter, succinctly states the intention of Son of Baldwin:

We can disagree and still love each other unless your disagreement is rooted in my oppression and denial of my humanity and right to exist.

Son of Baldwin is currently available on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.
