As part of Pittsburgh Opera’s commitment to bring new, American operas to the Benedum Center stage, we are very proud to announce the Pittsburgh premiere of Jake Heggie’s critically acclaimed opera Moby-Dick.
The opera is based on the famous novel of the same name by Herman Melville, about Captain Ahab’s megalomaniacal pursuit of a legendary white whale in his ship the Pequod.
Moby-Dick the opera premiered in Dallas in 2010, and has been performed across the country and overseas. Moby-Dick has earned rave reviews, and we felt that Pittsburghers deserved the opportunity to see this tragic tale about the price of obsession.
Kristine McIntyre directs. Antony Walker conducts.
