Steeltown Film Academy (SFA) draws on its partnership with teaching artists and professional mentors to teach a curriculum of the basics of digital media arts – what we like to call SCALE: storytelling, camera, audio, lighting, and editing. The curriculum is more than 100 hours of hands-on and collaborative learning and uses the latest digital media technology. Each class produces their own short film by the end of the session.

Students who successfully complete the program are eligible to apply for a next-level internship opportunity with Steeltown's Teen Film Crew. Upon successful completion of their internship, they may then be invited to apply for a part-time job with the Teen Film Crew where they get paid to produce promotional videos for clients and content for our web series: "The Reel Teens: Pittsburgh." Due to labor laws, students must be 16 to receive a paid position.

The Spring 2022 in-person* program runs from February 1st through April 28th, 2022 for three days each week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) from 4:30PM-7:30PM, at WQED Studios in Oakland - 4802 Fifth Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Snacks will be provided each day prior to and during the start of the program. Steeltown Film Academy will not be in session on the following day(s) due to holidays: Thursday, April 14th (Easter).
