Resonance Works Pittsburgh and the indie companies of the Decameron Opera Coalition return to your favorite small screen with HEROES - seven world premiere opera short films presented in three episodes, all framed by original art songs by Hilliard and Boresi, with special guest Karen Slack.

This diverse collection of creators explore the meaning of heroism and profile unsung, unconventional, or misunderstood heroes from varying eras and geographies. HEROES looks forward into a new era of innovation in opera and to increasingly enlightened perspectives on who we hold up as role models and why. Some of the subjects include Hazel Johnson, the “Mother of Environmental Activism,” a Pay-What-You-Can Cafe in an urban food desert, and even the everyday heroes in and around all of our lives.

Resonance Works Pittsburgh's contribution to Heroes is an homage to the people in our lives who propel us with endless and selfless generosity. Created by composer Justine F. Chen, librettist Jacqueline Goldfinger, with the amazing artistry of mezzo-soprano Laurel Semerdjian, the entire HEROES production is not to be missed!

Resonance Works is an artist-driven, multi-modal performing arts company in Pittsburgh presenting performances that empower musicians and engage audiences since 2013. From fully staged opera to chamber music and commissioned works to classics, we create an alloy of unique and inclusive musical experiences for audiences in a variety of spaces. In order that our art reflects our community, Resonance Works has committed to programming at least half of the works in a season by women and a third by BIPOC creators, with the goal of normalizing equity, diversity and inclusion in our work and in the industry.
