Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Mounted Patrol

Presented by DOORS OPEN Pittsburgh at Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Mounted Patrol

Officers will show you their daily activities and let you meet their equine partners!

Tour highlights will include the history of the City of Pittsburgh and its use of horses specifically within the Bureau, how the Mounted Unit was revived, where the horses came from, their background, and how the city acquired them, as well as training of the horses including their exclusive training for police work in an urban environment.

Remember to use #BeNebby in your social media posts before, during and after this tour!

The City of Pittsburgh Bureau of Police Mounted Unit is responsible for carrying out the basic functions of the Bureau, participating in community outreach programs, assisting and serving as a support unit in special operations (search and rescue, civil disorder/crowd dispersal), and training incoming officers to the unit to be proficient in all equine skills.
