60-minute docent-led tour of the 25 murals painted by immigrant artist Maxo Vanka on the walls of St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Millvale in 1937 and 1941.
Guided tours, provided by trained, enthusiastic docents last about an hour. In this time, you’ll gain insights into Vanka’s art and the experiences that shaped his ideas. Our terrific volunteer docents discuss and answer questions about Vanka’s early life, his success in Europe and his life in America.
You'll see why these murals that capture the themes of justice, injustice, immigrant experience, spirituality, community and motherhood within the context of 1937 and 1941 are still relevant today. Often described as "not your typical Church murals" -- these larger-than-life images must be seen to be believed.
Admission is $15 per person. All ages are welcome.
Advance reservations are encouraged.
All guests must provide their names and contact information in advance or at registration.
