Artists in Process: Environment, Health, and Public Art

Artists in Process: Environment, Health, and Public Art

Presented by Shiftworks Community + Public Arts at Online/Virtual Space

Join the Office of Public Art (OPA) for a conversation with three artists making work about Pittsburgh’s environmental health crises. As part of OPA’s Environment, Health, and Public Art (EHPA) Initiative, Ginger Brooks Takahashi, Aaron Henderson, and Mary Tremonte are collaborating with Pittsburgh-area organizations to create works of temporary public art. These artworks address several distinct yet intersecting issues of environmental health: access to safe, clean drinking water, air pollution, and lead toxicity in the soil. In this panel-style discussion, Brooks Takahashi, Henderson, and Tremonte will share their process for how they developed work for the EHPA Initiative. The artists will reflect on their approach for how art can be used as a vehicle to raise awareness for environmental issues, artists’ methods for addressing such themes, and how they have been working with communities during the pandemic.
