Empathy, Healthy Boundaries, and Self-Care: Teaching Artist Initiative Meet-up

Empathy, Healthy Boundaries, and Self-Care: Teaching Artist Initiative Meet-up

Presented by Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council at Online/Virtual Space

Guest teaching artists will join Teaching Artist Initiative co-organizer Maritza Mosquera to discuss how empathy and boundaries all impact the practice of self-care in our teaching artist practices. This meetup will investigate and explore our practices of care in our work, specifically when we are invited into challenging spaces to lead communities in excellence and rigor in art making.

We will explore the setting of boundaries where both teacher and student can be present as we challenge ourselves to emphatically be fluid and present in the moment.

We invite attendees to self-explore the practices of empathy and boundaries, and discuss the challenges and joys of particular moments when boundaries may have been crossed. Let’s unpack it and move forward the whole of our practice.

Materials needed for this hands-on, mind-lit workshop:

Originally launched in 2012 under the name “CreatorsMakersTeachers Network,” the Teaching Artist Initiative is a peer group that focuses solely on the needs of teaching artists and arts educators at all stages of their careers. Led with support from fellow teaching artist Maritza Mosquera, the Initiative meets quarterly for topic-specific salons, connecting fellow teaching artists and providing access to professional development. The initiative also hosts a biennial Teaching Artist Symposium in partnership with the Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Media.
