Surface-Texture-Materials

Presented by The Westmoreland Museum of American Art at The Westmoreland Museum of American Art

Organized to coincide with and complement Pattern Makers on view in the adjacent Cantilever Gallery, the artists in this exhibition have used a variety of materials--wood, clay, Plexiglas, metal, stone, found objects, wire, felt, silver leaf, oil and acrylic paint--to create their pieces. Whether applied or implied, they share an affinity to surface. From smooth and rough, minimally or highly textured, to pierced or multi-layered, the play of light activates each surface in a unique way, with shadows often adding another dimension.
