Gershwin, Ellington and Two Premieres! Our season finale features Gershwin and Ellington plus the world premiere of Robert Schultz’s Symphony Op. 48 and the Pittsburgh premiere of Routenberg’s Jazz Violin Concerto, featuring Roy Sonne!
Our season finale explores the past and future of American symphonic music by featuring the premiere of a bold and expressive new Symphony Op. 48 by local composer Robert Schultz. We deliver the confluence of jazz and the symphony orchestra with the Pittsburgh premiere of Routenberg’s Jazz Violin Concerto featuring Roy Sonne (violin) and Duke Ellington’s Sophisticated Lady. An American program would not be complete without the passion and excitement of George Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess!
Program includes:
Sophisticated Lady (Duke Ellington, arr. John Wilson)
The White Peacock (Charles Griffes)
Symphony Op. 48 – World Premiere (Robert Schultz)
