According to Vicky Clark (curator and writer), “It isn’t difficult to be both a feminist and a curator in Pittsburgh; it’s effing hard.
Vicky Clark said.....For the longest time, few cared, and I wasn’t in a position to do much. Even when I began to have opportunities, not many understood or cared about what I did. But I never gave up; I couldn’t, even if I tried. As a child of the sixties, I believe that I can have an impact on a small scale, in a way that cannot be measured in our outcome-obsessed culture. Hear my story, and let’s discuss how we can affect change for women and for artists in this crazy world".
Vicky A Clark is an independent curator and writer, concentrating on contemporary art and ideas. She worked at the Carnegie Museum of Art where she established the Forum Gallery and the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. She also taught art history, including women in art, at most area universities. When asked if she could teach a course on feminism in the arts, she responded: “Everything I do is feminist.”
