Votes for Women: Portraits of Persistence

Votes for Women: Portraits of Persistence

Presented by Senator John Heinz History Center at Online/Virtual

Marking the centenary of the ratification of the Nineteenth Amendment in 1920, Votes for Women: A Portrait of Persistence will explore the history and complexity of the national suffrage movement with Kate Clarke Lemay, historian at the National Portrait Gallery.

The program will explore the under-recognized individuals and groups of the Suffrage Movement and examine how portraiture promoted gender equality and became a crucial element of women’s activism.
