Anna Bruno Virtual Lecture

Anna Bruno Virtual Lecture

Presented by Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures at Online/Virtual Space

Join us for a virtual lecture with local author Anna Bruno on her new novel, Ordinary Hazards. Anna will be in conversation with author Sarah Elaine Smith.

Anna Bruno and Sarah Elaine Smith both grew up south of Pittsburgh and eventually crossed paths at the Iowa Writers’ Workshop. Sarah is from rural Appalachia, which is beautifully rendered in her debut novel, Marilou is Everywhere. Anna grew up about an hour north of her in Upper St. Clair. In many ways, these two regions of southwest PA could not be more different, while their novels share a focus on what it means to call a place home.

Ordinary Hazards follows Emma, a powerhouse in the business world, to the barstool of her hometown dive. Why has she ended up here? What is she running away from? And what is she willing to give up to recapture the love she once cherished? Named a “Best Debut Novel of 2020” by Library Journal, Ordinary Hazards is one woman’s epic journey back to a life worth living.
