A dancer and choreographer, Mandi Moerlands captures pensive moments and exuberance with ink and oils.
Mandi Moerland’s exhibition titled \”Painting the Dance\” opening January 15th captures bodies in motion. Please join us for our opening reception celebrating her exhibit Friday, January 17th from 6:00-8:00pm. The event features a talk from Mandi introducing her work, cheese, wine, and performance art ballet.
Mandi dances across paper and canvas with art that moves us. A dancer and choreographer, she captures pensive moments and exuberance with ink and oils. Feel the rhythm and gesture of life at her turning point. Her classic oils of ballet dancers and dance subjects long beloved in the gallery are contrasted with a fresh new direction, a “turn in the road” as Mandi puts it. Her recent work responds to her fascination with Sumi-e art. Her unique vocabulary turns the “life spirit” of dance subjects into beautiful and elegant gestures of brushed ink on paper.
This exhibition also features a collaboration with graphic and video media artist Ivy Dolamore. Mandi and Ivy have created an evocative ballet gesture animation that will be running in the gallery.
