A multi-genre artistic collaboration re-humanizing the memories of women who have become statistics of domestic violence
On a 50' x 3' canvas we have transcribed the names and loving memories people shared of females killed by an intimate partner rather than the details of their murders. Upon entrance into G1/CW gallery patrons will see, and symbolically walk upon, The Red Carpet of women's names running the length of the gallery floor. The galllery walls will display curated works by 14 Pittsburgh artists which depict aspects of misogyny in our culture. There will be staged readings of IN SHELTER, a play about the aftermath of domestic violence read by 7 local actresses, October 2-5 & 9-12.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness month. Our intent as artists is that the canvas roll, paintings and readings of IN SHELTER, which comprise The Red Carpet Project will inspire conversations about about how the loss of so many each year women effects our lives.
$20 suggested donation at the door.
G1/CW will have open seating.
