The East Winds Symphonic Band is an award-winning band comprised of a diverse group of musicians of all ages. Musicians come from all walks of life and professions, sharing a common interest in instrumental music and a desire to continue playing their band instruments. Experience levels vary, but most have experience playing in high school, college, military, or professional organizations.
The band performs a wide variety of repertoire that includes serious wind ensemble music, classic band literature, and a mix of styles including but not limited to Dixieland, Broadway show medleys, movie soundtracks and marches.
EWSB has been performing continuously since the first concert in 1982 – 40 years of continuous music. Over the years, the band has performed at dozens of locations in Western Pennsylvania including: Cabot, City of Pittsburgh, Crafton, Forest Hills, Latrobe, Ligonier, McKeesport, Monroeville, Munhall, Saxonburg, Sewickley, Upper St. Clair, West Mifflin, and Zelienople. Frequently the band performs at the Bach, Beethoven, and Brunch series in the City of Pittsburgh’s Mellon Park, and it was invited in 2021 to be a part of Pittsburgh’s 4th of July celebration at Point State Park. In 2008, EWSB was recognized by the John Philip Sousa Foundation with the Sudler Silver Scroll, the most prestigious award for community band excellence in North America. EWSB has also traveled to performances around the country and beyond. EWSB has performed as a featured band in three national conventions for the Association of Concert Bands (ACB) in Corning, NY, Muskegon, MI, and Pittsburgh, PA. The band has also performed twice at the prestigious Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, NY. In 2019, the band traveled to Ireland to give three concerts as part of the American Celebration of Music in Ireland series.
