Storytelling with the Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center

The Council of Three Rivers American Indian Center was initially conceived in 1969 when members of two Native American families in Pittsburgh sought to overcome the feeling of “floating” in the mainstream. They felt the need to maintain their identity as Native People, recapture roots and become more conscious of their rights as Native Americans. In February 1972 after several years of planning the Council was incorporated as a non-profit organization under the laws of Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Internal Revenue Service regulations. The Council operated from offices in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh until July 1976 when it moved to its present headquarters in Dorseyville, Indiana Township.

Storytelling times at 11:30 am – 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm.

Native Voices is an exhibit that explores the lives of five Native American tribes in New England through hands-on exploration including artifacts, photos, music and many activities as you learn how these resilient cultures carefully balance traditional practice with life in the modern world. Now on view until January 6, 2019.
