The Office of Public Art announces the launch of the Sift exhibition Artistic License, curated by José Carlos Diaz, Chief Curator at The Andy Warhol Museum. To celebrate the exhibition Artistic License, a reception will be held on Tuesday, September 18, from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at The Glitter Box Theater. Sift is an online exhibition space that features artwork housed on the Pittsburgh Artist Registry. The Registry is the region’s only free, online database for contemporary artists working in Southwestern Pennsylvania. Artistic License curated by José Carlos Diaz showcases artwork by visual and performing artists including: Ian Brill, Deavron Dailey, Sarika Goulatia, Michael Lindsey, Carin Mincemoyer, Leah Patgorski, Sophia Sobers, Robert E. Sholties, Laura Tabakman, Kamara Townes, Michael Walsh, Anqwenique Wingfield, Buff, a collaboration between artists Ivette Spradlin and Lenore Thomas, and Phat Man Dee and the Cultural District.
The next Sift exhibition will launch in the late fall of 2018, and will be curated by Ben Swank, co-founder and Consigliere for Third Man Records, the signature label launched by Jack White. Third Man’s mission is to support the creation and distribution of any and every form of expression, from music to poetry, fiction to film. Swank is also co-founder of Third Man Books, established with Jack White and Chet Weise in 2014 to further explore the music of language.
Sift aims to provide a new line of communication between artists shaping the cultural landscape in the Southwestern Pittsburgh region, curators who interpret the artists’ impact, and the greater public, while increasing the visibility of these artists.
