Paradise Blue

It’s 1949 and club-owner and trumpeter Blue must choose between escaping his demons and the human cost of leaving the only home he’s ever known

Returning to City Theatre for a third time, Dominique Morisseau (Pipeline, Sunset Baby) takes us to a gentrifying Detroit for a haunting drama laced with jazz and intrigue. It’s 1949 and club-owner and trumpeter Blue must choose between escaping his demons and the human cost of leaving the only home he’s ever known.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

Info regarding how this event is being affected by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis.:

All guests and staff are required to wear masks when indoors at City Theatre at all times. Masks must cover both the mouth and nose and be constructed with double-layer cloth or, ideally, be N-95 or KN-95 masks. We strongly encourage all guests to wear a N-95 or KN-95 mask, which are worn by all staff, per the recent CDC recommendation. Unfortunately, face-shields do not provide sufficient protection to Covid-19 and are not acceptable alternatives to wearing a mask (wearing both are fine!). With the rise of infections due to the Omicron variant, we have decided to again close our bar and concession stand. No bar or concessions sales (i.e., no food and drink) are currently being sold. Water is provided. Patrons are asked to keep masks on except when drinking water. All season productions are taking place in the larger 254-seat Main Stage. Currently, for all performances of The Medium capacity has been reduced by 50%. Patrons may move to unreserved empty seats upon entry to the venue and after consulting with front of house staff. City Theatre requires all artists, staff, and volunteers to be fully vaccinated. The organization is fully vaccinated. Additionally, all City Theatre staff are required to receive a Covid booster shot, if eligible, by January 31, 2022. Actors and stage crew are tested for Covid-19 three times a week. All theater spaces have been inspected by a third-party HVAC expert; maintenance and upgrades have been performed and MERV-13 filters are utilized
