August Wilson’s Tony-nominated drama set in a boarding house in Pittsburgh’s Hill District in 1911.
The play explores the lives of African Americans at the start of the Great Migration to the North as they seek their own identities and contend with racism and discrimination. Most performances are outdoors at August Wilson House, the Pulitzer-winning playwright's boyhood home.

All matinee performances will be indoors at Madison Arts Center, 3401 Milwaukee Street in the Upper Hill (the same location we’ll use for our evening performances if inclement weather requires that).
The Sun Aug 13 2023, 7 PM performance will be followed by a talkback featuring curators and librarians involved with the August Wilson collection at the University of Pittsburgh Library System.
