Godspell

Come sing about love! Pittsburgh theater company, The Theatre Factory, is proud to present GODSPELL, the Tony-nominated rock musical based on the Gospel of Matthew.

GODSPELL is a uniquely special musical to the Pittsburgh region – the show was written and first produced at Carnegie Mellon University in 1970 by John-Michael Tebelak as a student thesis project. Stephen Schwartz rewrote the music and lyrics for the 1971 off-Broadway production, the 1973 film starring Victor Garber, and the 1976 Broadway premiere. The music of GODSPELL is catchy and enduring, including the chart-topping “Day by Day,” “Prepare Ye the Way of the Lord,” “All for the Best,” “Beautiful City,” and more.

At its heart, GODSPELL tells the story of a group of individuals who come together to form a community. Led and guided by Jesus (played by Kevin Rabbits), the group of misfit “clowns” are challenged and inspired through games, songs, stories, and the eventual loss of their leader.

The cast features Kevin Rabbits (Jesus), Sam Brooks (John the Baptist/Judas), Meredy the Hlasnik, Sophie Hoglund-McGuirk, Minnie Jones, Jeremy McCawley, Matt Mlynarski, Paulina Neuschwander, Mairead Roddy, Madison Siple, Emily Urbaniak, and Brennen Wagner-Malia. This Pittsburgh theater company presentation of GODSPELL is directed and choreographed by Olivia Hartle, with musical direction by Travis Rigby. Caitlin Young serves as assistant director and assistant choreographer.

GODSPELL runs for two weekends at The Theatre Factory in Trafford (235 Cavitt Ave.): Friday through Sunday (March 31-April 2) and Thursday through Saturday (April 6-8). Performances on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are at 7:30 pm, and the Sunday matinee is at 2:00 pm. Tickets can be purchased at www.thetheatrefactory.org.
