Presented by Quantum Theatre, Chimerica, an award-winning play by Lucy Kirkwood, follows a fictional photojournalist who photographed the iconic “Tank Man” in Tiananmen Square during the 1989 pro-democracy protests.
This award-winning play by Lucy Kirkwood reminds us of an image that arrested the world: a protester facing down four tanks in Tiananmen Square in 1989. Who was he, and who was the photojournalist who captured it? From there to the fraught present of US and China relations, it examines capitalism and culture, journalism and censorship.
