The Black River African Dance Fest is a weekend of soul-stirring African dance workshops and performances. And the premiere performance of Fode “Lavia” Camara’s African dance ballet: The Legend of Kadiatou.
The weekend of May 19-21 marks the premiere performances of Fode “Lavia” Camara’s The
Legend of Kadiatou (Kadiatou kha Tarikhui). This work portrays the inspiring life story of Balafon’s
visionary founder “Mama” Kadiatou Conte in stunningly vibrant color and movement. Performed
by Balafon’s unique, intergenerational ensemble of dancers and musicians, this powerful tribute
will uplift and inspire you. Be sure to arrive early for time to browse the pop-up Black River market
