Inspired by the Freudian psychoanalytic theory of the conscious and subconscious mind, Giovanna Ferrari’s work explores an interpretation of the human psyche, using water depicted from different vantage points as a reflection of the human mind. The coastline aerial views represent the ego/superego where everything is contained by rules which make reality comprehensible; where shadows are merely far away memories belonging to an imaginary world that existed in another lifetime. The underwater corals and flora represent the subconscious, where colors and shapes mold together into something that cannot be given a clear meaning.
