About the Presenters
Joanna Abel
Joanna Abel is a Pittsburgh-based dancer and visual artist. Art has been an important part of Joanna’s life. At La Roche University, she studied Studio Arts with an emphasis on painting and obtained her art education certificate from Carlow University. She is the founder and owner of 3rd Street Belly Dance Studio in Carnegie, PA. Joanna travels nationally and internationally studying, teaching and performing. She has also worked with the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust doing artist residencies in PreK-12 classrooms, as well as facilitating professional developments for teachers and artists alike. Her love of movement and of teaching is apparent in both her studio and her work as a teaching artist, where her creativity inspires, delights and engages students of all ages. Lauren Braun
Lauren Braun is a visual artist based in Pittsburgh. Her recent work explores themes of transformation, adaptation and meditation. Working in a variety of media including collage, drawing and painting, she explores a variety of techniques, materials, and processes. This year, Lauren is participating in the first cohort of the Mindfulness Facilitator Certification program virtually through the Copper Beech Institute. Her work is currently featured in Buffalo Obscura’s Record Theatre Window Project in Buffalo, NY. This fall her collages will be included in a group exhibit at the National Centre for the Arts in Minsk, Belarus. She earned a BFA (Art Photography) from Syracuse University and an MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts University. You can find Lauren on Instagram at @laurenbraunart.
