The art work of William Pfahl, which includes some of the most iconic images of Pittsburgh and surrounding communities, will be featured at the Sunnyhill Gallery.
William is a plein eir painter who utilizes oil and pastel. He is a long time member of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh (AAP).
William is inspired by direct observation and the plein air process. He enjoys playing with color and composition within the framework of linear perspective. In addition to painting plein air cityscapes, William regularly paints three-hour sessions of both the figure and portrait. By drawing and painting the figure, he strives to continue building a strong foundation that can help him have confidence to be a better improviser and editor. In other words, he likes to paint what he sees and enjoys the magic of creating the illusion of 3-D on a 2-D surface!
