Mending for Sustainability

On Saturday, June 2, 1 – 3 PM, bring a piece of clothing that needs to be mended: torn, missing buttons, a hem coming unstitched, etc to the hands-on workshop, “Mending for Sustainability”! Students will be guided through the steps to mend it, leaving with a newly repaired garment and a sense of accomplishment.

Mending is an integral part of Sarah Kate Beaumont’s art practice. Concerned about the impact of fast-fashion on the environment, she has designed and made every stitch she wears, creating a unique wardrobe without buying a single article of clothing since 2008. Her project has been featured in The New York Times (“Back to the Simple LIfe with Needle and Thread”) and profiled in the book Overdressed: The High Cost of Cheap Fashion, by Elizabeth Cline.

Beaumont currently divides her time between Pittsburgh and Brooklyn, NY.
